About Me

Hey there!

Welcome to my private 3D/2D CG blog. I utilize these pages for documenting my learning processes, workflow and the mistakes I make, so others may learn from my Bads. Furthermore I’ll post my WIPs, some art I consider finished and also photography that I like, artsy or not.

Some bio for you interested people: I’m 35, I live in Vienna, Austria and I have been professionally working in the graphics/layout field since 2001, collecting experience since ’98, when saving a 240dpi file still took at least 8 hours. I’m striving to make CG my main business. This means a few things – primarily, lots of time, lots of money and lots of CPU power and RAM, neither of which I currently have, but soon, at least partially, will have.

I made my first tries with 3D software in ’98, too, but I never got around to DOING it until January 2009. Since then I have been using the great and free Open Source 3D suite Blender 3D, which may have been the hardest to start with due to the interface, but I’ve learned during the course of my life that sometimes it’s best to learn stuff the hard way. Like Windsurfing on the open sea :) After 3 months of Blender I sent one of my models to a professional for critique. I was trembling in fear I might have been heading into the wrong direction, wasting my time and money (yes, also free software takes lots of expenses!). The reply got me so kickstarted I’m since then willing to do whatever  needs to be done to get geared up – so that’s where I’m heading with godspeed!

What else do I have in mind… learn proper hard surface modelling with NURBS and learn how to draw and paint again! The first shall be executed through MoI, the latter through Photoshop CS4 and ArtRage. Except for Photoshop these are highly functional and efficient, yet cheap software that I’ll describe more closely in the software section.

I have been doing countless newspaper ads, posters, folders, business cards and web ads during the last 9 years, but you won’t find any of those here – this blog is solely dedicated to my studies and according resources, my mentors, teachers and communities, all of which you’ll find in my links section and scattered throughout the articles. The layout and CI world is not very fulfilling or inspiring, but it is a job.

If you have any comments – every one of them is welcome and needed. Just stay within the boundaries of verbal courtesy. You need not be politically correct at all, just don’t insult me either with stupidity or rude choice of words.
